However, despite its issues, I really hope Balan Wonderworld isn’t the last we will see from Yuji Naka and Naoto Oshima. Overall, failing on the most important aspect of a video game (the gameplay) really prevents Balan Wonderworld from achieving true greatness. In fact, you could probably play this game with a three-button Sega Genesis controller and perform every action you need to. In fact, the game only has three distinct button controls, L1 and R1 for switching between costumes and all four face buttons as well as the triggers for gameplay or costume usage (though I appreciate that the triggers utilize the DualSense adaptive technology that changes depending on the costume). However, all of these costumes only use one button for their actions, and some like the pig actually hinder gameplay unintentionally which can be tedious. Balan Wonderworld’s trick is that the player can collect and switch between costumes that perform different actions. Naka and Oshima’s platformers often rely on a unique gimmick to differentiate their games from others, For the Sonic series, it was all about going fast while for NiGHTS, the ability to fly was key. Unfortunately, the game falters on gameplay. The story is a positive too, with Leo and Emma saving the souls of people from Lance, kinda like pseudo-Phantom Thieves. In addition, the characters are definitely influenced by NiGHTS which is pretty neat, as Balan and Lance echo Nights and Reala, while Leo and Emma are comparable to Elliot and Claris. You definitely get that same feeling of fantasy and magic that Naka and Oshima have implemented in past works. Starting with the positives, the music and visuals are gorgeous. I skipped the demo so I could start the game without much prior knowledge, and pre-ordered it so it would be in my hands on day 1. NiGHTS into Dreams on the Saturn is one of my all-time favorites, so I was super excited to see Yuji Naka and Naoto Oshima work on a new game. I skipped the demo so I could start the game without much prior knowledge, TL DR: Balan Wonderworld has great characters, story, visuals, and audio, but is heavily held back by the most important aspect: gameplay. It’s a sad attempt to pad reviews by the company who released the game. The only game that user has reviewed is Balan wonderworld. Seriously, look at every user who left a 10 review. At least that would be pleasurable for 10 minutes. Don’t spend 60(!!!) dollars on this, you’d be better served buying crack. The other half are trolls from anonymoose doing it for the lulz. Half of the perfect 10 reviews are developers of the game who are desperately trying to get people to plop down their money for this “game” before the IGN review comes out. At least that would be pleasurable for 10 A flaming dumpster fire. If my review gets marked as "not helpful", you know who's to blame (hint: it's not the actual players). To release something this bad as a fully-priced console title borders on fraud and is absolutely shameless. For which, shame on you, you f***ers! Don't you have ANY dignity left? There was a reason as to why they didn't hand out any review copies: This game could not even be considered decent as a free-to-play mobile game. Seems like Squirt-Enix are resorting to the cheapest tactics possible and are trying to buy their way out of this mess by flooding this site with fake user reviews (look at the profiles of these people, none of them have reviewed anything else besides this POS). For which, shame on you, you f***ers! Don't you have DO NOT TRUST THESE POSITIVE USER REVIEWS. DO NOT TRUST THESE POSITIVE USER REVIEWS.
